The Architecture Foundation promotes and encourages the best in contemporary architecture and brings it to a wide public. It runs a rich programme comprising exhibitions, talks, events, design initiatives and competitions, research, policy work and films.  Established in 1991 as Britain's first independent architecture centre, The Architecture Foundation actively bridges the gap between decision-makers, design professionals and the public. The Architecture Foundation is building a new centre for architecture in Bankside, designed by Zaha Hadid, and currently runs the Yard Gallery, a temporary experimental gallery in east London.

The world's first curatorial department devoted to architecture and design was established in 1932 at The Museum of Modern Art. From its inception, the collection has been built on the recognition that architecture and design are allied and interdependent arts, so that synthesis has been a founding premise of the collection. The collection provides an extensive overview of modernism. Starting with the reform ideology established by the Arts and Crafts movement, the collection covers major movements of the twentieth century and contemporary issues. The architecture collection documents buildings through models, drawings, and photographs, and includes the Mies van der Rohe Archive.

The GAU:DI programme is funded through the Culture 2000 EU Programme. It is directed by six co-organising institutions who have substantial experience in European co-operation. The Architecture Foundation (UK) ; Cité de l’'Architecture et du Patrimoine (FR) ; Foundation Mies Van der Rohe (ES) ; The Lighthouse (UK) ; The Museum of Finnish Architecture (FI). These institutions all have similar missions: to promote contemporary architecture (exhibitions), museography (collections), disseminate research and experimentation (archives, research, teaching).

In June 1999, the Commission published a call for applications for experimental measures in anticipation of the Culture 2000 programme. The European Union thus contributed to 55 cultural projects, which received a total of 6.07 million euro.
Of the 410 applications submitted, the Commission selected 55, following the opinion of a panel of independent experts representing several cultural disciplines. More than 270 cultural operators from the Member States of the Union and the countries of the European Economic Area were involved in these projects.

For over 55 years Zumtobel Lighting has worked exclusively with light - to create top quality lighting systems that are economical in terms of energy consumption, healthy to use, and good to look at. Our corporate goal has always been to create better light for the user, to design light that blends harmoniously with the architecture and is tailored to the needs of the interior and the application - wherever people live and work. A key factor in our development effort is the ongoing dialogue we maintain with all our partners: interior designers, consultants, architects, and their clients. Their ideas and suggestions are a major source of stimulus for us in our research and product development work. The result is innovative lighting systems solutions devoted to the practical needs of the user, combining increasingly convenient installation, applications-based lighting engineering and attractive design.

Arper was established in the 1980s in Northern Italy and quickly gained a reputation for innovative manufacturing of high quality furniture.  Arper's commitment to technological innovation was an important factor in their association with designers Lievore Altherr Molina who designed the now celebrated Catifa range of chairs, launched in 2001.  The technological possibilities developed by Arper allowed Lievore Altherr Molina to contemplate designs combining aesthetic values of elegance and simplicity with great practical versatility - a product range that is adaptable and effectively tailor-made for contemporary spaces. These concepts are also reflected in the beautiful Duna and Leaf collections of tables and chairs and in this year new Arper lines designed by Jean-Marie Massaud and Simon Pengelly.
